We spend so much of our time in our homes working, preparing meals, entertaining or just relaxing so it shouldn’t be a surprise when it is hard to keep our furniture looking neat and clean. It should not be a major chore to clean and maintain the furniture in our homes, including our upholstered sofas and chairs. Here are a few tips to make it a little easier:
Sofas and chairs are not only vulnerable to surface stains and dust, but dirt can also embed itself into the fiber of the material. Remember, even if the grime is not visible and apparent, it is there. So for sake of cleanliness, cleaning upholstery on a regular basis is very important. But still, this does not mean it has to be an arduous task.
Upholstery cleaning materials can be found in most hardware stores. The main products to have on hand include a mild laundry detergent, baby wipes for spot cleaning and white vinegar to remove stains on the surface.
Combine the laundry to create suds and you have a mild solutions to clean and remove the grime and grit from the upholstery. The baby wipes are relatively dry and gentle and will not harm the furniture. The vinegar can be mixed to form a soapy solution for a more intense cleaning. Just open up your windows or turn on a fan to reduce the smell after washing.
If you have the time, it is best to let your furniture air dry after cleaning; however, if time is an issue, you can use a hair dryer to speed the drying process.
